母の日

5月13日は母の日。

アメリカの西バージニア州で、ある女性が亡き母をしのび墓前に白いカーネーションを置いたことが起源。この風習が広まり、現在、日本やアメリカでは５月の第２日曜日を母の日として祝う。

5月11日は長良川鵜飼開き。

岐阜県長良川で開かれる、松明の火でアユをおびき寄せ、ウを使ってアユを捕る伝統的な漁法。５月１１日から１０月１５日まで増水と十五夜を除いて行われる。

なんだとか。

5月10日はコットンの日。

１９９５年、「コッ（５）トン（１０）」の語呂合わせから、日本紡績協会が制定。綿が夏物素材としてよく使用され、５月が店頭販売の最盛期を迎えるため。
